Global medical oncologist
Training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Australia has shaped Dr De Silva’s approach to translational medicine and the thoughtful integration of clinical trials into patient care. Experience across both major tertiary centres and regional settings has also reinforced the importance of humility, perspective, and whole-person care, contributing to a more balanced and holistic approach to oncology.

Research
In his specialist oncology training, Dr De Silva was actively involved in clinical,
translational, and laboratory-based research, with a strong focus on cancer genomics
and tumour biology. He has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and
ongoing research projects across breast, lung, and urological cancers, and his work has
been discussed and presented within international academic and clinical settings. This
research background underpins his approach to evidence-based, precision cancer care
and informs day-to-day clinical decision-making.During his tenure at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), one of the
world’s leading cancer research institutions, Dr De Silva was involved in advanced
clinical research programs and early-phase therapeutic studies. This included exposure
to patients receiving novel targeted and immune-based treatments through clinical
trials, in some cases for the first time globally. Working within large metropolitan tertiary
hospitals, this experience strengthened his ability to integrate cutting-edge research into
personalised cancer treatment strategies, balancing innovation with safety and real-
world outcomes.
